Creating Connections Across The Social Media Landscape
Let’s get this out of the way… you’re probably wondering one of the following:
What is this?
How did I get here?
Where’d this new email come from?
You’re receiving this email because you've either joined us at a recent event or expressed interest in joining our events and shared your email with me! My main goal is to update you about events and share some perspectives on the social media landscape. So I hope this is a pleasant surprise!
Everything comes directly from me - Jacob Wallach!
If you’re getting this email - it’s not a fluke. You were specifically included as someone I think has a unique perspective on this space and is influential in changing the social media and creator marketing ecosystem.
What’s wild about this group is that we’ve only hosted 3 events and already have 250+ incredible people here. 100 of us are creators and collectively have close to 70 Million followers.
That’s 1/5th of the U.S population
That’s the size of France
There are only 19 countries in the world with a bigger population than the reach we have just from this group.
Make sure to sign up! This will be in a private space and I’m currently looking for beverage and food partners to provide some tasty snacks and drinks. The venue capacity is 90 people so please sign up quickly to ensure you can join us!
While working at TikTok I realized one thing:
The social media, marketing, and influencer spaces are all incredibly insulated, disjointed, and isolated.
This is crazy considering how much we all work together to build cohesive campaigns and strategies. I also noticed that unless you’re going to a conference like SXSW, VidCon, or CEX there’s not often a space where marketers from across the social media/influencer worlds can interact with each other and creators in person and casually. What’s wild about this industry is that:
Agencies don’t communicate with each other even when working on the same client.
Agencies keep their brands away from other agencies.
Brands don’t often get to interact with other brands.
Creators rarely interact with brands directly.
Creators don’t know other creators (many have told me this directly).
Platforms are independent (folks at TikTok are not talking to Instagram).
I hope you’re sitting there nodding your head. I am as I write this.
When you sit in a silo there’s no growth. When you speak to like-minded people you don’t hear different perspectives. When you get too comfortable in your role you stay complacent. This industry is incredibly dynamic and always changing so how can we as individuals not be the same…
There are two options: Adapt or Die
This needs to be changed… not tomorrow, or next year, but immediately.
The heart of future emails?
To keep you informed and involved:
Exclusive Updates on Events: Be the first to know about our upcoming gatherings. From intimate meetups to panels, you’re on the list for updates.
Social Media Insights: I’ll pepper in some new updates on platforms, but since many newsletters already do this, I’ll defer to those. This is supposed to be a quick note to make you think not to be another step you check off your to-do list.
Incredible Partners: I’m already looking for partners who can provide value to our events. I run my consultancy by providing value from Day 1, which is exactly how I plan to integrate partners into this - only working with those that I know can provide value in unique ways!
The next three are completely community-driven! We all want to be involved, take ownership, and feel included. Like the panels I plan to host - I want group discussion, not group thinking.
So please share what you want to see! 👀👀👀
Brand Takes: A breakdown of all things good and bad about brands on social media. If you have a brand you love or love to hate share it with me and I’ll give my hot🔥 and cold❄️ takes. If there are untraditional brands I’d love to see it.
Spotlights on Our Community: Meet the people who make our community vibrant. Each newsletter features interviews with creators and marketers, sharing their journeys, challenges, and triumphs. If you’d like to be interviewed please let me know! There are already 250 people here so I will have to be somewhat selective with whom I interview - but please don’t let that discourage you from signing up!
Community Gatherings: As much as I love networking I also genuinely want to make more friends in this space. Outside of regularly scheduled events - what are you doing that you might want more people to tag along with? Are there any cool events? Need a group to go to an exhibit? Let me know and I’ll share it!
What’s Next?
Mark Your Calendars: We're hosting our event on April 18th and looking for beverage and snack partners so if you happen to know a cool or up-and-coming brand that wants to be in front of amazing people let me know!
Next Newsletter Interview: In our next issue, we dive into the story of the biggest creator in our community! 11M followers across social media and counting.
